Meditation and spiritual intelligence are one and the same. The psychological process underlying meditation is the foundation of spiritual intelligence. The basic psychological process, common to all types and traditions of meditation (with the exception of TQ traditions), is the shift in identity from the object-pole to the subject-pole of attention, which represents the shift from being the body and mind to being awareness itself, or consciousness itself. This shift transcends the ego by being the soul, which activates spiritual intelligence. SQ experiences the spiritual qualities of the soul, in the form of peace, compassion, joy, love, wisdom, integrity, and creativity. Hence, the exercise of SQ represents the generic form of meditation, prior to interpretation by different spiritual traditions. However, the use of SQ doesn’t require the traditional meditation setting (sitting down, in a quiet place, with eyes closed). SQ can be exercised anywhere in any circumstances. For more information about SQ and meditation, please see the post entitled Secular Spirituality.

From SQ and Ethics

Depending on yourself to make ethical decisions can really be upsetting and frustrating. For many people it can take a long time to build a strong moral system. It doesn’t really just happen if you know what I mean.

Your comment highlights what distinguishes IQ and EQ from SQ. You say that depending on yourself to make ethical decisions can be upsetting and frustrating, and that it can take people a long time to build a strong moral system. However, that’s only true in the absence of SQ. Using IQ and EQ, without the benefit of SQ, the ego has to struggle with itself to act in a responsible and ethical manner. Therefore, in the absence of SQ, when only IQ and EQ are active, it can take a long time to build a system of habits that supports ethical decision-making. But with SQ it’s different. When you use SQ, you don’t need to rely on ingrained habits in order to behave ethically. With SQ, your soul takes over from your ego, without any struggle, and without having to practice for years. SQ ensures that your heart, not your ego, takes the lead, which guarantees ethical behaviour. Therefore SQ does “just happen”, as soon as you engage it. SQ is an ever-present capability we have simply neglected to recognise and use. See below for a video about how to activate your spiritual intelligence.

Only a weak mind seeks ultimate answers. ~ Elayne Boosler

Reply

On the contrary, all minds, whether weak or strong, ask ultimate questions, and therefore seek ultimate answers. But a weak mind gives up sooner! It’s fashionable to assert that it’s impossible to find answers to life’s ultimate questions, and that the attempt to do so is the hallmark of a weak mind that does not understand the limits of human understanding. But this conclusion is premature. This view results from looking only within the mind. However, if you keep looking, and don’t give up, sooner or later you will find the portal beyond the mind. The portal beyond the mind is the shift from ego to soul, at the opposite pole of attention. At the subject-pole of attention, the inherent qualities of consciousness itself (or the soul) are experienced in the form of peace, compassion, joy, love, wisdom, integrity, and creativity. The answers to life’s ultimate questions are therefore obvious to your soul. The portal from ego to soul is called the SQ Portal. See below for a video about how to use the SQ Portal to experience your spiritual intelligence.

Don’t like religion? Don’t have one!

Reply

This is good advice as far as it goes, but it doesn’t go far enough. Simply not having a religion oneself does nothing to solve the problem of religion. Religious belief is still widespread, and therefore continues to influence society as a whole. Why is religion a problem? And why does the religion of others pose a problem for non-believers? The reason is that religions convince people that merely believing is beneficial. This is an immense disservice to billions of religious followers. There is a more authentic option than mere belief, namely experience. Experiencing the soul releases you from ego, whereas merely believing in the soul leaves the ego in control. When you think you already know, based on mere belief, there’s no incentive to rely on your experience. But only spiritual experience, not religious belief, transforms your awareness and behaviour. Hence SQ education is about experiencing the soul, not believing in it.

Reliance on mere belief IN the soul, at the expense of actual experience AS the soul, diminishes spiritual intelligence. This is at great personal cost, and it’s also costly to society as a whole. Wherever religion takes hold and gains power, conflict follows. This is to be expected. Religions typically claim exclusive access to spiritual truth, and deny the legitimacy of other faiths. Consequently wars have been fought for millennia over religious differences. Religions continue to fuel conflict and intolerance today all over the world. Moreover, two of the most powerful world religions, Christianity and Islam, foster messianic doomsday messages that welcome a world apocalypse as a cleansing destruction of non-believers. This is nothing less than a collective suicide wish shared by both sides of a major religious conflict. Thus has religion become the enemy of life itself.

Widespread reliance on religious belief, in the absence of spiritual experience, therefore suppresses collective spiritual intelligence. Religions thus disadvantage everyone, believers and non-believers alike. So it’s not sufficient simply to avoid religion oneself. That does nothing to counter the negative effects of belief-based religion on the entire world community. The remedy for the negative effects of religious adherence based on mere belief is public access to secular experiential spirituality. That’s why public SQ education is necessary, which is the purpose of this site.

Life sucks, and then you die…

Reply

Is this your soul talking, or your ego? When you are identified with your ego, at the object-pole of attention, life sucks. That’s because the ego always has a tough time. The ego feels dissatisfied and insecure, even when things are going well, because it depends on changing circumstances, over which it has little control, at the object-pole of attention. But at the subject-pole of attention, the soul has a different experience. The soul experiences the native qualities of consciousness itself, in the form of peace, compassion, joy, love, wisdom, integrity, and creativity. So if you feel life sucks, you are simply identified with the object-pole of attention, without realising it. It’s a common condition, which everyone is familiar with, because we’ve all been there. But there’s an alternative: instead you can learn how to activate your spiritual intelligence. See below for a video that provides step-by-step instructions for experiencing your SQ.

I adore reading something that touches my heart!

I’m glad you feel the heart-awakening that’s inherent in SQ. It’s necessary to understand certain ideas about SQ, as a foundation, but the ideas themselves are not the ultimate point. The ideas are a vehicle for heart-awakening. SQ is a heart experience. That’s the level of the real communication. When you are established at the subject-pole of attention, as consciousness itself, even for a moment, you are released from bondage to objects of attention. This allows the impulse of the heart to shine through unobstructed, in the form of wisdom, compassion, integrity, joy, love, creativity, and peace.

Three Dimensions of Intelligence

Three Dimensions of Intelligence

3Q Training

As a powerful combination of three principal dimensions of intelligence, 3Q represents IQ and EQ in association with SQ. Studies in neuroscience reveal that the experience of spiritual intelligence is correlated with hemispheric synchronisation and whole brain activation. The resulting whole-brain coherence optimises brain function and replaces the ego (the false self) with the soul (consciousness itself, the true self) by shifting from the object-pole of attention to the subject-pole of attention, which results in greater fulfilment, increased creativity, sharpened intuition, more empathy and compassion, and improved performance on a wide range of work skills and life skills. If you want to learn more, there is a Course on 3Q Training here.

The SQ paradigm is based on a synthesis combining the wisdom of ancient spiritual traditions with the findings of modern science, as summarised in this article here.

How to Experience Spiritual Intelligence [Video]

Spiritual intelligence is easy to experience. We all experience SQ spontaneously at times. But spontaneous moments of SQ are rare and unpredictable. Therefore it’s important to know how to experience SQ intentionally. When you can engage your spiritual intelligence voluntarily, at any time of your own choosing, SQ becomes your most powerful personal resource. This video provides step-by-step instructions on how to activate SQ intentionally. Watch the video here.

3Q Practitioner Training Course

Do you want to accelerate your own personal and spiritual growth, and teach others to do the same? The 3Q Practitioner Training Course trains and certifies Spiritual Intelligence Practitioners.

Spiritual Intelligence is a higher dimension of intelligence beyond the ego that has access to the advanced capabilities of the true self. This Course is based on secular spirituality not on religious beliefs. Consequently, the methodology used to activate spiritual intelligence is not founded on articles of faith but on experience and knowledge, backed by evidence from related fields of scientific research. Certified Practitioners are provided with the training materials to coach their clients in spiritual intelligence, and conduct workshops in spiritual intelligence for leaders and organisations, and for the general public.

As the intelligence of the true self beyond the ego, spiritual intelligence (SQ) has many benefits that exceed the scope of intellectual intelligence (IQ) and emotional intelligence (EQ). Spiritual intelligence relieves anxiety and depression and the extreme pain of meaninglessness and despair that is often associated with ego states of awareness. Freedom from ego, as experienced with SQ, grants wisdom and clarity of vision, combined with more empathy and compassion, which increases creativity and intuition, and results in greater personal fulfilment and better performance on important life skills and work skills. Spiritual intelligence therefore represents the most powerful resource for personal and professional growth and fulfilment.

Widespread adoption of spiritual intelligence as a personal code of conduct raises the standard of accountability in collective governance, in response to public demand. When standards in governments and corporations are based on spiritual intelligence, the energy of love will turn into a social and political force, as never before in history. Public training in spiritual intelligence therefore heralds a new era of human rights and social justice, which form the foundation for global cooperative community, shared prosperity, and world peace.

As a 3Q Practitioner you will be equipped to introduce spiritual intelligence in the context of contemporary secular culture, and contribute to the next stage in the evolution of collective consciousness. When a tipping point is reached, the emerging next stage of collective consciousness will result in global transformation, founded not on beliefs of any sort, or on government control, or on mass media narratives enforced by censorship of contrary views, but founded instead on the inherent qualities of consciousness itself, such as love, wisdom, and peace, which everyone can experience by activating their spiritual intelligence.
