Why do I say something like that? I’m not sure what specifically your question is about. Perhaps you are asking why I say that the soul is located at the subject-pole of attention? The reason I say this is because all the qualities traditionally ascribed to the soul can be experienced at the subject-pole of attention.
The principle of reasoning used here is traditionally known as Ockham’s Razor. This well-established principle states that the simplest explanation that accounts for all the evidence is the preferred one. When applied to this topic (the location of the soul), this principle confirms that a psychological analysis is preferable to a supernatural explanation, on the grounds that a psychological analysis provides a simpler explanation of the available evidence.
Recognition of the psychological location of the soul yields many benefits. Chief among these benefits is that the recognition of the psychological location of the soul makes it possible to experience the qualities of soul without relying on religious belief. The qualities of the soul are experienced at the subject-pole of attention in moments of presence, in the form of wisdom, compassion, joy, love, creativity, and peace.
Many people today simply reject religious belief. It’s evident that mere belief is completely unreliable as a foundation for knowledge, as history demonstrates beyond doubt. Many people therefore demand the evidence before they accept anything as true. Consequently, the fact that the soul can be accessed directly, on the evidence of direct personal experience, without relying on religious belief, is of great importance to many people.
So, in answer to your question, I wrote the article above for the benefit of millions of people today who seek spiritual truth based on reliable evidence, not based on unverifiable religious beliefs. The SQ paradigm thus updates the wisdom of the ages in contemporary secular terms.
