The Secular Reformation of Spirituality

Three Dimensions of Intelligence

Three Dimensions of Intelligence

Contemporary Spirituality

Contemporary spirituality is secular not religious. Religious spirituality is based on ancient beliefs that have insufficient evidence to support them because if the evidence was sufficient they would be facts not beliefs. Whereas secular spirituality is not based on beliefs but on experience and knowledge, backed by evidence from related fields of scientific research. More…

Not Secularism

The secular reformation of spirituality is not “secularism”. As a philosophy, secularism is associated with a materialist view of the world that denies the existence of anything other than the physical dimension of reality. Consequently, secularism rejects spirituality. Whereas the secular reformation of spirituality represents spirituality freed from religion, beliefs, and dogma. In contrast to secularism, the secular reformation of spirituality legitimises spirituality by identifying the underlying psychological process shared by all forms of spiritual realisation. More…

Beyond the Creator God Idea

Religious beliefs misrepresent reality by superimposing the idea of a separate God who created the universe, instead of recognising the appearance of the universe as a stepped-down modification of self-existing consciousness; much like physical objects are simply stepped-down modifications of light energy, as proved by quantum physics. The secular reformation of spirituality avoids this mistake, and explains why spirituality does not need the religious idea of a creator God. More…

Paradigm Shift

The secular reformation of spirituality in the 21st century is more significant than the Protestant reformation of Christianity in the 16th century. In fact, the secular reformation of spirituality is the most consequential paradigm shift in history, because it provides the conceptual foundation for post-materialist science, and supplies a shared language for the meeting of science and spirituality. Twin Poles of Attention

Human Operating System

Human Operating System

The secular reformation of spirituality uses a new analysis of the human operating system that distinguishes between the object-pole of attention and the subject-pole of attention. The shift from the object pole to the subject pole of attention accomplishes the shift from ego to soul which activates spiritual intelligence. This distinction between opposite poles of attention makes it possible to describe the process of spiritual realisation in psychological terms rather than in theological terms, thus validating the secular reformation of spirituality. Revolutionary

The secular reformation of spirituality is revolutionary for religious institutions and for secular institutions alike. This is because previous to the secular reformation of spirituality both religious institutions and secular institutions believed that spirituality depends on, or implies, belief in the existence of a separate creator God. But this is not so. Belief in the existence of a separate creator God is not the foundation of spirituality, and not necessary for spiritual realisation. More…

Inter-spirituality

Beneath the diversity of spiritual practices and observances lies a deeper unity of experience that is our shared spiritual heritage. This deeper unity is the focus of inter-spirituality. The secular reformation of spirituality articulates the underlying psychological process common to all forms of spiritual practice in every tradition. Consequently, by identifying the unifying principles shared by all spiritual traditions, the secular reformation of spirituality highlights the key to inter-spirituality. More…

Spiritual Intelligence

As the intelligence of the true self beyond the ego, spiritual intelligence (SQ) has many benefits that exceed the scope of intellectual intelligence (IQ) and emotional intelligence (EQ). Freedom from ego grants wisdom and clarity of vision, combined with more empathy and compassion, which increases creativity and intuition, and clarifies meaning and purpose. These benefits result in greater personal fulfilment and better performance on important life skills and work skills. Consequently, by making spiritual intelligence directly accessible to all, without relying on religious belief, the secular reformation of spirituality offers everyone the most powerful resource for personal and professional growth and fulfilment. SQ Brain Upgrade

Neuroscience

Neuroscience contributes to the secular reformation of spirituality. Neurological studies have established that the brain has three distinct processing modes, called serial, parallel and synchronous. Serial processing is associated with IQ functions in the left brain. Parallel processing is associated with EQ functions in the right brain. And synchronous processing is associated with SQ functions in the whole brain. More…

New Definition

The secular reformation of spirituality defines the soul not in theological terms but in secular terms, based on consciousness studies and findings in transpersonal psychology. This new definition defines the soul as consciousness itself, located at the subject-pole of attention, to which everyone has direct access without relying on belief. This contemporary understanding of the soul is a major contribution to the secular reformation of spirituality. More…

New Synthesis

The secular reformation of spirituality rests on a new synthesis combining ancient spiritual wisdom with modern scientific knowledge derived from several independent fields of scientific research, including cognitive psychology, transpersonal psychology, and neuroscience. This synthesis of science and spirituality exemplifies the secular reformation of spirituality. More…

New Method

The secular reformation of spirituality offers not only a secular definition of spirituality but also a secular method of engaging in spiritual practice that enables anyone to experience instant spiritual realisation without relying on religious beliefs. Previous to the secular reformation of spirituality, secular people had no means of access to spiritual realisation because spiritual practice required adopting religious beliefs that are entirely unacceptable to secular people. Watch a video that explains this method by clicking the following link. More…

Next Stage

At this point in our history, at the dawn of the third millennium, faced with unprecedented global crises of our own creation, coupled with immense potential for improving the quality of life for all, the secular reformation of spirituality provides the necessary and sufficient means for individual and collective transformation. Consequently, celebration knows no bounds! Everyone who ever hoped for a better world has reason to rejoice. Despite appearances to the contrary in the daily news, a new era is beginning to unfold behind the scenes, guided by the spiritual dimension of intelligence, representing the next stage in the evolution of collective consciousness.
