Non-physical Location
The soul is the existential self, or the true self, in contrast to the ego, which is the body-mind self, or the false self. Usually it is assumed that the soul doesn’t have a location. A location is often thought to be a physical place, and the soul clearly isn’t physical. However a location can also be non-physical. For example, what is the location of the number 6? The number 6 is located between numbers 5 and 7. Knowing a number’s non-physical location enables us to use it with precision. Similarly, the soul has a non-physical location. Knowing the soul’s non-physical location allows us to access the soul with precision.
The ego and the soul are located at opposite poles of attention.
Location of the Soul
The soul is located at the subject-pole of attention. This is illustrated in the diagram above, which depicts the twin poles of attention. At the object-pole of attention is everything we are aware of, including external perceptions, thoughts, emotions, memories, beliefs etc. At the subject-pole of attention is consciousness itself. The SQ map of attention clarifies that being the ego means being the body and mind at the object-pole of attention, while being the soul means being consciousness itself at the subject-pole of attention. The native qualities of consciousness itself, which are inherently free from modification by objects of attention, are experienced at the subject-pole of attention in moments of presence, in the form of wisdom, compassion, integrity, joy, love, creativity, and peace.
Scientific Evidence
The scientific evidence for the existence of the soul is compelling. The evidence is from two sources. Firstly, from studies in medical science here and here, which prove that consciousness continues in the absence of brain activity. The second source of scientific evidence for the existence for the soul is the evidence for reincarnation. If reincarnation is a reality, clearly consciousness can detach from the body, which represents objective evidence for the existence of the soul.
Religious Belief
Traditional religious beliefs ascribe a supernatural nature to the soul that distinguishes the soul from everything that we can access naturally. Therefore it might be objected that the soul as defined by the SQ paradigm is not the same “soul” as described in religious traditions. However the qualities ascribed to the soul by religious beliefs are identical to the native qualities of consciousness itself, which are experienced at the subject-pole of attention in moments of presence, in the form of wisdom, compassion, integrity, joy, love, creativity, and peace. It’s unnecessary to give a supernatural explanation for experiences that we can have with our natural capabilities.
The SQ paradigm thus demythologises the soul by identifying the location of the soul in empirical terms, and thereby for the first time establishes the legitimacy of the soul within the contemporary secular world-view. As an innate dimension of intelligence that everyone can access, SQ therefore represents the foundation of secular spirituality.
The shift from ego to soul is the essence of spiritual intelligence.
SQ Map of Attention
Based on the locations of ego and soul at opposite poles of attention, the SQ paradigm draws a map by which to navigate from ego to soul with assurance and precision. This is an important advance for individual and collective evolution. Traditional religious beliefs situate the soul in a remote supernatural location, accessible to faith alone. But the SQ paradigm identifies the soul at a psychological location that is directly accessible, without relying on belief, on the basis of direct personal experience.
From Ego to Soul
The shift from ego to soul is the essence of spiritual intelligence. When SQ is active, the soul replaces the ego as the seat of personal identity, and as the governor of IQ and EQ. The ego and the soul use IQ and EQ for different purposes. The ego uses IQ and EQ for personal gain, in the constant search for compensations for the inevitable dissatisfaction of being the ego. But the intelligence of the soul has a different purpose. As the intelligence of the soul, SQ uses IQ and EQ for the benefit of all, to express the native qualities of consciousness itself, which are experienced at the subject-pole of attention in moments of presence, in the form of wisdom, compassion, integrity, joy, love, creativity, and peace.
3Q Training
As a powerful combination of three principal dimensions of intelligence, 3Q represents IQ and EQ in association with SQ. Studies in neuroscience reveal that the experience of spiritual intelligence is correlated with hemispheric synchronisation and whole brain activation [ref]. Consequently, coaching in 3Q trains the whole brain. The resulting whole-brain coherence optimises brain function and replaces the ego with the soul by shifting identification from the object-pole to the subject-pole of attention via the SQ portal, which results in greater fulfilment, increased creativity, sharpened intuition, more empathy and compassion, and improved performance on a wide range of work skills and life skills. I recognise that spiritual intelligence appears unacceptable to some people. But that’s no reason to step back. On the contrary, it’s a reason to step forwards and share the latest findings on this important subject. That’s why I have published this website to share my findings with everybody. Misunderstandings of this important subject need to be corrected as soon as possible. Let me start with your comment.
You mention beliefs about spiritual intelligence. One of the key features of spiritual intelligence is that it doesn’t depend on beliefs. Spiritual intelligence is accessed by means of direct personal experience. There’s no need to believe anything when you can experience spiritual intelligence directly. This is in contrast to religion which does depend on beliefs.
Many people have outgrown a belief-based relationship with reality, and seek something more authentic based on their own experience. Believing unverifiable things about reality is less attractive to many people than investigating reality by means of direct personal experience. This is why spiritual intelligence meets a growing need today.
Although spiritual intelligence appeals to many people who have left behind religious beliefs, nevertheless those who have religious beliefs can still benefit from their spiritual intelligence. There is nothing to stop religious believers from using their innate capability for spiritual intelligence. In fact spiritual intelligence enhances religious observance by providing access to a deeper level of participation and engagement than mere beliefs on their own can support.
